Diesel Mechanic / Service Technician

This Diesel Mechanic position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing medium to heavy-duty trucks under minimal supervision. Repairs will include Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs, air and hydraulic brake repairs, tire repairs, warranty procedures, driveline, steering & suspension, electrical trouble-shooting, AC and other duties as assigned.

In addition, the Technician will assist other Technicians in repairs and will be expected to comply with Safety and EPA procedures and continue to learn additional mechanical duties such as advanced diagnostics, internal engine and transmission repairs.

Experience & Requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to read codes and instructions on the computer
  • Must be able to document repairs on the computer
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet McCoy Freightliner’s driving qualifications
  • Prefer a Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
  • 3 years of proven medium to heavy-duty vehicle repair including: PM’s, tire & wheel, air & hydraulic brakes, diagnosis, computerized diagnostics, electrical
  • Prefer certifications in tire & wheel, brakes, AC &/or EPA
  • Must possess at minimum a set of hand tools up to 3/4″
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, holidays and on-call rotations for roadside assistance

Heavy Duty Parts Department Assistant Manager

SUMMARY Strives to return a satisfactory profit on dealer capital invested in parts inventory. Accomplishes objectives through the use of proper purchasing procedures, inventory control, staff utilization, security, pricing, merchandising, displaying and advertising.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures correct pricing parameters in each customer category that generate sufficient gross profit to produce a satisfactory profit while maintaining customer loyalty.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Communicates to purchasing the needed adjusted parts inventory levels and balances them for maximum turnover.
  • Ensures that all packing slips are batched and forwarded to corporate purchasing for posting and processing.
  • Analyzes sales, expenses and inventory monthly to maintain profit goals with Parts Manager.
  • Monitors freight recovery on emergency ordered parts.
  • Develops and administers an aggressive retail parts program to produce profit.
  • Ensures that the same high quality level of service provided to outside customer is also provided to internal dealership customers.
  • Works with the Service Shop Foreman to ensure a timely turnaround of parts needed for all mechanical jobs.
  • Contributes to “job streamline” department efficiency.
  • Accountable for performance of other department employees including manpower schedule.
  • Payroll processing- Submit hourly timecards to Payroll in a timely manner.
  • Process Time off requests, maintaining scheduling calendar; reports all schedule conflicts to Parts Manager for resolution.
  • Provides technical assistance to parts department employees.
  • Analyzes departmental operations and storage layout and revises as needed for maximum effectiveness.
  • Directs shipping and receiving efforts to ensure timely processing.
  • Monitors daily reports such as sales productivity and gross profit per day to budgetary goal.
  • Develops and utilizes a lost sales tracking report.
  • Directs outside parts and counter sales efforts, including a telemarketing program to keep in contact with customers.
  • Develops sales promotions.
  • Inventory- Responsible for inventory Prep Coordination, work with Parts Manager with producing count sheet.
  • Develops, enforces, and monitors guidelines for working with customers to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Handles customer complaints immediately and according to the dealership’s guidelines.
  • Supervises custodians to ensure that work area is kept clean.
  • Enforces safety requirements, including but not limited to forklift training and operation, processing of MSDS sheets on all products carried, and OSHA Right-to-Know.

Body Shop Mechanical/Suspension/Frame Technician

Our body shop provides the highest quality body, paint, fabrication, detail, and collision work and our technicians are trained to work on Freightliner, Western Star and other heavy duty vehicles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welding, suspension, frame work experience a plus! OR must be willing to learn/train**
  •  Identify and determine parts required for repair; review repair orders, work order, and Body Shop Managers estimate notes; follow warranty guidelines; notify Supervisor of any repair add-ons.
  • Adjust, replace, and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment (e.g., sheet metal repairs, fiberglass/ panel repairs, fabrication and structural welding, installation and alignment of truck cab body components, electrical and mechanical repairs, etc.).
  • Road test vehicles when necessary.
  •  Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills and truck manufacturer’s repair process.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Some experience and a certain level of proficiency in use of all tools required for the job (welding equipment, plasma cutters, drills, sanders, die-grinders, impact wrenches, and jacks) required
  • Working knowledge/experience of medium and heavy duty trucks or desire to learn.
  • Must have own hand tools or be willing to build set.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance

Parts Front Counter

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists all customers (retail and shop) in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Informs customers of companion part requirements and specials, and ensures that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
  • Answers phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
  • Provides high level of service to internal and external customers.
  • Pulls and fills orders from stock.
  • Puts parts away and re-stocks lobby area.
  • Notifies parts manager of out-of-stock parts or shop materials that need immediate attention.
  • Locates out-of-stock parts from outside source and submits an emergency order, if necessary.
  • Notifies the service advisor and the customer when special ordered parts have been received.
  • Follows up on back-ordered parts.
  • Verifies will-call and back-order files weekly and returns to vendors, or stocks those items not picked up or required.
  • Assists outside sales representatives with their orders.
  • Makes sure all internal requests for parts are billed on service repair order.
  • Receives payment from retail customers or obtains credit authorization.
  • Ensures that all charge sales are signed by the customer.
  • Ensures that all customers receive their copy of the invoice.
  • Issues credit for parts returned, ensuring that the original invoice, or its number, is available so that purchase and pricing can be verified.
  • Tags all cores with customer name, invoice/RO number, and your name.
  • Keeps orderly records of all repair orders, invoices, insurance estimates, and special order parts.
  • Keeps show room, front and rear counter areas clean and uncluttered.
  • Cleans computer terminals and printers daily.
  • Participates in all training programs that are made available.
  • Keeps current on new products and product updates.
  • Maintains professional appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Marginal Duties:

Participates with the parts manager in maintaining a lost sales tracking program.
